Find and count
Mixed animals scattered across the page, and a box for each kind underneath. Unlike a tidy row, the set has to be built before it can be counted — and then kept track of, which is where children who count perfectly still get the wrong answer.
How to use it
This is the first counting sheet here where losing your place is the real difficulty. Counting to six is not the problem; counting six ducks that are not next to each other, without counting one twice, is. Show your child that a pencil dot on each animal as it is counted is allowed and sensible — that is a strategy, not cheating, and it is the one adults use. If an answer comes back wrong, ask them to do that kind again with dots before you say anything else.

Printing notes
- Print at 100%, not "fit to page" — scaling shrinks the digits and the whole point is that your child writes them at a steady size.
- Black-and-white and draft mode are fine. Nothing on these sheets depends on colour.
